New Story Added: North Greenwich to Stratford

Posted by Mark Moxon on 1 September 2008

And now for the final part of my tubewalk, along the most modern section of the whole Tube, from North Greenwich to Stratford. I shan’t pretend that this section was a highlight for me – it’s rather run-down, particularly under grey August skies – but that doesn’t matter, because I’ve achieved my goal of walking the entire Tube network, and raised a fair wedge of cash for charity in the process.

I’ll be making various additions to the website over the coming months, when I get time, but right now I’m off for a bit of a tubewalk-free slouch on the sofa. Thanks for reading, and I hope you’ve enjoyed tubewalking along with me. It’s been great fun, I must say… :-)

I’ve finished!

Posted by Mark Moxon on 29 August 2008

I’ve just finished walking the last of the Jubilee line, which means I’ve now finished walking the entire Tube network. Result! That’s just under 440 miles of walking spread over 45 days, covering 12 lines and 276 stations, and in the process I’ve managed to raise £1625 for the Cure Parkinson’s Trust.

I’ll write up the final day on Monday, and polish off the website next week, because now I’ve got some serious celebrating to do! :-)

New Story Added: Canada Water to North Greenwich

Posted by Mark Moxon on 28 August 2008

I wasn’t expecting to enjoy the Isle of Dogs so much, but my tubewalk from Canada Water to North Greenwich has turned out to be a real highlight. With a walk that covers modern suburbia, luxury riverside developments, massive skyscrapers, historical parks, great views, heavy industry and the Dome, what’s not to love about the eastern Thames?

And a reminder that tomorrow (Friday) is my very last tubewalk, taking me to the end of the Jubilee line, and the end of my very last tubewalk. What a relief!

New Story Added: Green Park to Canada Water

Posted by Mark Moxon on 26 August 2008

It might be a bit gloomy out there after the Bank Holiday, but there’s nothing like a good walk to clear the head of cobwebs, and the short hop from Green Park to Canada Water on the Jubilee line is not a bad choice. At least, I think it’s cleared my head… but with only two more walking days to go, it’s a bit hard to tell. :-)

New Story Added: Dollis Hill to Green Park

Posted by Mark Moxon on 23 August 2008

So that’s north and west London all done, as I’ve just finished walking from Dollis Hill to Green Park on my last line, the Jubilee. I was joined by my sister for a walk with a Beatles theme, and to celebrate we even visited Moxon Street, which is surely the greatest street in the entire city…

New Story Added: King’s Cross St Pancras to Walthamstow Central

Posted by Mark Moxon on 20 August 2008

I have discovered a new favourite building, and it’s right at the end of the walk from King’s Cross St Pancras to Walthamstow Central. Waltham Forest Town Hall is easily the most impressive building I’ve seen in outer London, and it made the walk From King’s Cross worthwhile, all by itself. Bravo, Walthamstow!

New Story Added: Brixton to King’s Cross St Pancras

Posted by Mark Moxon on 20 August 2008

Brixton to King’s Cross St Pancras was my penultimate walk across the centre of London, and very enjoyable it was too. Despite chaos in the rest of the country, the weather is holding out nicely, which was a relief as my Mum and Dad joined me for the last couple of sections through the shopping streets of London, and they’ve been rained on constantly up in the Midlands. Be thankful for small mercies, I say…

New Story Added: Uxbridge to Acton Town

Posted by Mark Moxon on 18 August 2008

Today I finished walking the Piccadilly line, though the section from Uxbridge to Acton Town is not one of the most thrilling parts of the Underground. Ye gods, I even came across a pebbledash Tube station, which is one of the most depressing things I’ve ever seen. Bring on the Victoria line, I say…

New Story Added: Bounds Green to Cockfosters

Posted by Mark Moxon on 17 August 2008

The Piccadilly line saves some of its best walking to the far end, as I found out today on my walk from Bounds Green to Cockfosters. This part of the line is legendary among aficionados of Tube architecture for some of the greatest examples of modernist station buildings, and Arnos Grove, Southgate and Oakwood are truly spectacular. It makes me proud to be a Tube nerd, and I think Southgate might turn out to be my favourite Tube station of all. We’ll see…

New Story Added: King’s Cross St Pancras to Bounds Green

Posted by Mark Moxon on 16 August 2008

During this tubewalk I’ve slowly turned into a Tube station architecture geek, and the best stations of all can be found along the northern stretches of the Piccadilly line towards Cockfosters. I started brushing against them on my walk from King’s Cross St Pancras to Bounds Green, and in the process got my second stop and search form from the police for taking photographs. Along with Alexandra Palace, Finsbury Park and some great summer weather, it turned into a great day’s walk, and I’m looking forward to making the final push to Cockfosters on Sunday.
