New Story Added: Hammersmith to King’s Cross St Pancras

Posted by Mark Moxon on 15 August 2008

The last time I crossed London, on the Bakerloo line, I was worried that familiarity might be breeding contempt, but I’m happy to report that I thoroughly enjoyed walking from Hammersmith to King’s Cross St Pancras, possibly because the weather was kind to me. Here’s hoping the sunshine continues…

New Story Added: Boston Manor to Hammersmith

Posted by Mark Moxon on 13 August 2008

Hurricane season has hit London, and it’s not a great time to be wandering down by the river, but even nasty weather can’t detract from the beautiful walk from Boston Manor to Hammersmith. Next time I’ll try to remember my umbrella, though; that’ll teach me to leave it up in the Lake District…

New Story Added: Hatton Cross to Boston Manor

Posted by Mark Moxon on 6 August 2008

I’ve left Heathrow behind and started making my way up the Piccadilly line, and today’s walk from Hatton Cross to Boston Manor was an enjoyable walk through Hounslow Heath and Osterley Park, with the slightly less interesting urban sprawl of Hounslow in the middle. I hope you enjoy it.

I’m taking a (planned!) six-day break from tubewalking to refuel at the Great British Beer Festival and enjoy a long weekend relaxing in the Lake District, but I’ll be back on the trail next Wednesday with the leg from Boston Manor to Hammersmith. See you then…

New Story Added: Heathrow Airport

Posted by Mark Moxon on 5 August 2008

Today I walked all the way round Heathrow Airport, which was quite an experience. I was lucky enough to get hold of a permit to enter the perimeter area of the airport, which is private property, and it meant I could tubewalk to all three stations (though I had to take a bus for the last section to Terminals 1, 2, and 3, as they won’t let anyone walk under the runway, even someone as, um, debonair as me). Come fly with me…

New Story Added: Elephant & Castle to Willesden Junction

Posted by Mark Moxon on 2 August 2008

The weather might be rotten, but that didn’t stop me tackling the first part of the Bakerloo line, from Elephant & Castle to Willesden Junction. I’m not sure this is the most thrilling line in the world, but it still has some surprises up its sleeve, not least the appearance of Iggle Piggle on a backstreet in Queen’s Park. Night night, everyone!

New Story Added: Barkingside to Woodford

Posted by Mark Moxon on 1 August 2008

I’ve finally finished the Central line, and you can read all about my final leg from Barkingside to Woodford. The Central line has turned out to be a real highlight, particularly out in lovely rural Essex, and I highly recommend it. Next up is the Bakerloo line, which will be a bit of an urban shock after the rolling fields of the Hainault loop…

New Story Added: Leytonstone to Barkingside

Posted by Mark Moxon on 28 July 2008

It’s far too hot to enjoy urban walking at the moment, but luckily I’m still out in the suburbs, and today I walked the first half of the Central line’s Hainault loop, from Leytonstone to Barkingside. A warning: this one contains swearwords. Those of a nervous disposition might like to… ah hell, who am I kidding? Nobody of a nervous disposition reads my writing, at least not any more. Enjoy. :-)

New Story Added: Debden to Epping

Posted by Mark Moxon on 25 July 2008

I’ve now reached the eastern end of the Central line at Epping; you can read all about this lovely part of the country in my article on Debden to Epping. I’ve never really explored this part of Essex before, and it’s great - this leg is definitely a contender for my favourite tubewalk so far. Next up, the Hainault Loop, and then that’s the Central line in the can…

New Story Added: Leytonstone to Debden

Posted by Mark Moxon on 23 July 2008

I’ve finally reached Essex, which is cause for celebration in itself, but you can share the love by reading the account of my walk from Leytonstone to Debden, which I’ve just added to my site. It’s all forests and bling round here, and very enjoyable it is, too…

New Story Added: Liverpool Street to Leytonstone

Posted by Mark Moxon on 22 July 2008

I’ve been back in the East End again, as you can find out in my account of walking from Liverpool Street to Leytonstone. With a couple of Jack the Ripper murders, the Olympic park and some wonderful green spaces, yet again the East End proves to be a highlight. That’ll teach me for believing the press headlines…
