Subject: Something else I wanted to add

Hello, again,

I also wanted to add that I visited The Gambia and more briefly Senegal in 1999, for a sutdy abroad program at the college I was attending. I'd love to go back! People were quite amused and sometimes a little scared since I'd brought my Leader Dog Abbyw ith me (Leader Dog is like a guide dog). One boy asked me if I could leave her with him as a gift, to which I told him that the people who gave her to me wouldn't be too happy if I came back to America without my dog. But I think my blindness and sometimes having my dog outside kept away most of the bumseters, as I didn't have that much trouble with them. But I remember some others in my group having problems with them. I would imagine that my experience of not having any vision would be different than a sighted person. And I remember when I was there, feeling sad, that I couldn't see everything around me. Because I knew I wasn't getting the full picture of things. I remember ont he bus, from Dakar to Banjul, a man from my group sitting next to me and describing everything as we passed it. Anyway, I'm rambling on, sorry. I actually wrote a whole series of articles on my trip to The Gambia. I'd be afraid to leet anyone see them now, as I was so naive at the time I wrote them. A couple of them got published on www.enablelink.com , which is a site which deals with the blind and visually impaired, and write articles dealing with issues that we face, as well as leisure and lifestyle that sorta thing. I'm not even sure if my articles are even up there any more. Anyway, guess I should go now. I tend to ramble. Take care...

Hi Ginny.

Wow, what a story! I bet having Abby with you was a great introduction to the locals; like Bob Marley and soccer, dogs are one of the universal constants of travelling, and I wouldn't be surprised if she proved a great way to break the ice. How did she cope with all the stray dogs out there?

I couldn't find your articles on EnableLink - if you do track them down, let me know. I'd be really interested to see them and to compare your experiences with mine.

Anyway, thanks again for posting, and happy travels!

Best wishes,

Mark

Hello Mark,

Actually, Abby wanted to play with the dogs and cats she came across. But I don't let Abby play with animals that I don't know anything about, even here in America. Especially since you don't know where they've been or what they've gotten into. Actually, Abby did very well on the trip. I probably wouldn't take her with me now, though, as she's almost 10 years old, and thus getting old. I will try to find my writings on The Gambia and let you know where they are.

Hi Ginny.

Great! I've got an email address I'm going to kill off soon, as it's ridden with spam, so why not try that? It's (email address deleted) - hope it works!

Looking forward to seeing how your experience compared with mine - should be fascinating.

Best wishes,

Mark
