Read your digital LEJOG because I'm thinking if doing it in 2018. Don't like the sound of the midges in Scotland. Enjoyed your relaxed writing style. Thanks for the hints which I will note when planning. I hope to use a handheld GPS rather than ordinance maps. What do you think of that idea?

Hi Ross.

Lots of people walking LEJOG these days use handheld GPS for their navigation - indeed, plenty of them use smartphones rather than dedicated GPS units. Paper maps seem to be part of a bygone era now (which makes me feel ancient!).

Of course, if your map system is a handheld device, then you have to be careful about things like running out of battery, or losing signal (if it's that kind of device). Maps are more reliable than electronics, but if you're careful and don't go out in nasty weather or head off the well-trodden track, digital maps are the way to go.

Good luck with the planning!

Best wishes,

Mark
